Blue Lagoon

Turquoise, Remote, Exclusive

The Blue Lagoon on Comino is one of Malta’s most iconic and visually striking locations. Famed for its crystal-clear, turquoise waters and white sand seabed, it is a natural wonder that draws thousands of day-trippers each year. But for event organisers who plan strategically—especially in the early morning or golden hour—this breathtaking cove transforms into a private paradise, ideal for luxury elopements, yacht-based gatherings, underwater-themed weddings, and ultra-exclusive celebrations.

There are no roads on Comino and no permanent event infrastructure at the Blue Lagoon itself, which means all events here must be portable, flexible, and highly curated. This limitation, however, is part of its appeal. Most successful events in the area are arranged via private yacht charters, catamarans, or floating pontoons, with catering and entertainment onboard. These mobile venues anchor in the Blue Lagoon or nearby coves like Crystal Lagoon, offering privacy, luxury, and front-row access to one of the Mediterranean’s most enchanting seascapes.

For those who wish to step ashore, small ceremonies and proposals are occasionally held on the sandy strip between Comino and Cominotto or along the rocky ledges nearby. Minimalist setups—often no more than an officiant, a photographer, and a floral arrangement—are common. The island’s rugged interior, with views over cliffs and coves, also makes a stunning backdrop for editorial photo shoots or brand campaigns.

While Comino is largely undeveloped, the island does host one hotel: the Comino Hotel, currently undergoing redevelopment as a high-end eco-resort. Once reopened, it will offer an exclusive on-island base for boutique retreats or multi-day events. In the meantime, most organisers base their groups in Gozo or northern Malta (e.g. Mellieħa or Ċirkewwa), using private boat transfers for day or evening excursions to Comino.

Adventure and water-focused itineraries thrive here. Event planners can build programmes around snorkelling safaris, paddleboarding, kayaking, or simply relaxing in floating hammocks with prosecco in hand. For more bespoke experiences, operators can arrange floating bars, live music on deck, fire dancers on the shore, or silent discos under the stars.

Because of its fragile ecosystem and high visitor pressure in peak months, events at the Blue Lagoon require respectful planning and off-peak timing. But for those who can access it mindfully, Comino offers something few places can: the chance to host an event in what feels like an uninhabited Mediterranean dreamscape.

For planners seeking something cinematic, elemental, and truly private, Blue Lagoon is a once-in-a-lifetime canvas—surrounded by nothing but blue.
