Situated to the East of the country, 327 kilometers from Asunción, Ciudad del Este can be found facing the Brazilian city Foz de Iguazú and connected to it by the “Puente de la Amistad ” (Friendship Bridge). It is also in front of the Argentine city Puerto Iguazú, which is the reason why the area is called the “Triple Frontera”.

Ciudad del Este is a metropolis with an intensely busy commercial life, the third largest free trade zone in the world, right after Miami (United States) and Hong Kong (China). There, you will find products of renowned brands: from electronic devices to perfumery, and even the best wine cellar in South America, as well as wines from every single continent, mainly from magnificent French vintages.

Near Ciudad del Este, located on Paraná River is the Itaipú Dam, which means “singing rock” in Guaraní. The Itaipú Dam continues to be largest hydroelectric dam in the planet in terms of electricity production, with its 20 generating units capable of generating 700 megawatts each. One of its many tourist attractions is the Itaipú Lake, which covers an area of 1,350 square kilometers of water.

Monday Falls, a tributary of River Paraná, is only 10 kilometers of Ciudad del Este and is comprised of three 40 meters high waterfalls. The distance is shorter than that which separates Ciudad del Este and the Iguazú Falls (34 km).
